Varietal Notes

What is Colombia?

The Colombia varietal is a hybrid coffee cultivar developed in 1980 by CENICAFÉ to resist coffee leaf rust while maintaining good cup quality. A cross between Caturra and the Timor Hybrid, it offers high yield, disease resistance, and adaptability. In the cup, it typically shows balanced acidity, medium to full body, and notes of caramel, chocolate, and red fruits. Widely grown across Latin America, it played a key role in sustaining Colombia’s coffee industry through disease challenges and inspired later cultivars like Castillo.

Producer Notes

Diego Almeida is a third-generation coffee producer and owner of Finca Brisa Eterna in La Cocha, Nariño, Colombia. His 12-hectare farm—5 hectares dedicated to coffee—cultivates varieties like Caturra, Geisha, Pink Bourbon, and Castillo. Combining family tradition with modern practices, Diego focuses on sustainable farming, selective hand-harvesting, and producing high-quality microlots. Located at 2,100 meters with volcanic soil and wide diurnal temperature shifts, the farm yields complex, vibrant coffees that reflect the rich terroir and legacy of Nariño.
