What is Heirloom?

Heirloom varietals refer to traditional, wild, or indigenous Arabica coffee varieties native to Ethiopia, the genetic birthplace of coffee. Often uncategorized due to their vast diversity, heirlooms can include both wild forest-grown plants and farmer-selected landraces. They are prized for their floral aromatics, vibrant acidity, and complex fruit notes, making them favorites in specialty coffee. While not a single variety, the term “heirloom” broadly captures the rich genetic diversity and unique flavor potential of Ethiopian coffees.

Carefully harvested and processed, Guji Bishala highlights the clarity, complexity, and terroir-driven elegance that define top Ethiopian coffees.
