Varietal Notes

What is Heirloom?

Heirloom varietals refer to traditional, wild, or indigenous Arabica coffee varieties native to Ethiopia, the genetic birthplace of coffee. Often uncategorized due to their vast diversity, heirlooms can include both wild forest-grown plants and farmer-selected landraces. They are prized for their floral aromatics, vibrant acidity, and complex fruit notes, making them favorites in specialty coffee. While not a single variety, the term “heirloom” broadly captures the rich genetic diversity and unique flavor potential of Ethiopian coffees.

Producer Notes

The Huke Washing Station sources cherries from over 600 growers in Gotiti Kebele and produces washed coffees through careful depulping, fermentation, and drying on raised beds before resting and milling. Owned by Testi Trading and operated by the Yonis family, the station has consistently delivered quality coffees. Testi Trading also reinvests locally through Project Direct, building multiple primary schools and the first high school in Hamasho.
